Paola Panthers senior running back Skylar Hawkins is knocked off his feet by a host of Louisburg Wildcat tacklers including Alex Gentges (#23) and Kody Cook (#7). Trailing the play are Nate Daugherty (#15) of Louisburg and Tyler Henness of Paola. This action from the first meeting of the season in the district five championship game as the Wildcats were victorious by a score of 21-3. The pair will meet again this Friday night (November 19, 2010) with the sub-state championship on the line. The game will again be played in Paola, between the 12-0 Wildcats and the 9-3 Panthers. Eric Van Loenen of Hill City blocks a punt by Osborne’s Jakob DeMars in the first quarter of the 8-man Division I semifinal between Mid-Continent League rivals Osborne and Hill City. The Ringnecks took over on the Bulldog 19-yard line and scored a touchdown which gave Hill City a 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Hill City avenged an earlier defeat to Osborne with a 48-24 victory to advance to the school’s first state championship game in football. Photo by David Steinle of Main Street Media Russell.

Hodgeman County Evan Kreger with the ball trying to escape two Hill City Ringnecks. Hill City wins 26-20 and will now face Osborne in a rematch from week 5. Hill City won that week 5 game 50-38. Senior tailback Matt Bromley of Independence had 322 yards rushing and 4 TD's (34 TD's on the year). Bromley now has 2,097 yards rushing for the year...only 43 yards shy of the all-time SEK League rushing record, which he set just last season. And his 34 rushing TD's is another league record (29 was the old one) which he also established just last season as well. In his career: 656 carries for 4,737 yds & 63 TD's.  Indy defeats Coffeyville 34-29 Photo by Rob Morgan.

The Sedan Blue Devils closed out their inaugural season of 8-man football with a 64 to 18 victory over Udall. The devils 7- 2 overall 4-1 in district came up just a few points shy of making the playoffs!  Photo by Larry Powell.

Hodgeman County-Jetmore Evan Kreger #2 racing down field with the football. Some of the scores from 8-man this year seems like a lot a track meets with basketball scores. Kreger scored 10 touchdowns in this game against Pawnee Heights to break the state record and tie the national record for TD's in one game. Photo by Jerri Coats of Captured Creations Photography.

Where all football games are really decided, the line of scrimmage. Elkhart in white jerseys and Meade in purple. Meade wins this district match up 57-14. Meade has lost to no Kansas high schools yet this year. Only game Meade has lost was the opening night of football season to a very good Canadian, Texas football team that is still undefeated. Last Friday night Canadian defeated Stratford, Texas 21-7 and that is the closest anyone has come to Canadian.  Photo by Michelle Ross of Prairie Photo Images Blog.

The Kingman Eagles taking the field. Kingman broke a 23 game losing streak earlier this season and was named one of the 'Teams of the Week' in Kansas for doing so. Keep up the good work Eagles and it will be real work getting to where you want to be. This has been the year to break some of these multiple year losing streaks and we are proud of the teams that have done it. Maur Hill 30 games, Republic County 29 games, Parsons 21 games, Weskan 20 games, Peabody-Burns 19 games, Haven 17 games, Yates Center 16 game, Rolla 15 games, Attica, Topeka Highland Park & Pleasanton 13 games, Pike Valley, Chetopa & West Franklin 12 games, Solomon 11 games, Trego County 10 games. If I have forgotten a team please email me! (I really like these multiple player photographs where teams are taking the field. Send me a picture of your team taking the field!)

Freshman back Trever Powell (8), of Kiowa County, got his first chance at varsity ball Friday night and responded with 100 yards and two scores on seven carries. "This was his first chance and he made the most of it," Coach Clint Young said later.  "He's got good speed and vision, but not a lot of fear, especially for a freshman." Welcome to high school football, freshman. Kiowa County defeated Minneola 72-44. Photo by Mark Anderson of the Kiowa County Signal

Hutch High running back Josh 'Moose' Smith hurdles his way to his 5th touchdown and 302 yards rushing which I believe was a new school record against Bishop Carroll in the semi-finals. Do you love football? Have you ever wondered if God even cares about the game? Well, the Bible often parallels sports with life. In this book Josh Steed, a former player, and lover of the game, makes a comparison between the sport and the Christian faith. He also tackles some of the biggest objections to Christianity. (If you are in the media Josh is looking to promote his book contact him through his website.)

Golden Plains finishes the season 7-3 but what great memories and a picture to match those memories. Another great picture from last Thursday nights game in a Snow Bowl played in Northwest Kansas. As much moisture as we have had this fall makes me wonder, as we get further into November, if we will have more pictures like this one? Photo by Travis Betz.

Otis-Bison quarterback Kevin Wissman just might be the player of the year in 8-man football. Otis-Bison will most likely have to finish in the state championship game for that to happen so more media members can see the Cougars play. Here is a story about the Cougars defeating Victoria. Photo by Everett Royer.

Greensburg's Thomas Derstein (2) and Billy Stensland (57) reach in vain to deny Macksville's Marc Renfro from the end zone in the Mustangs' runaway win Thursday. Despite the loss, Greensburg advances to the playoffs due to Jetmore downing Skyline the same night. Macksville wins the district to Greensburg's runnerup status. BRRRRRRRRRR Cold it was. . . the field was slop but football was played on a night that northwest Kansas saw lots of snow and rest of the state rain. Photo by Michelle Ross of Prairie Photo Images Blog.

Greensburg's Nathan Charlton (20) found the going tough throughout Friday's game at Skyline, here being hemmed in by the 'Birds' Brandon Morrow (30), Trent Befort (behind Charlton) and Zach Marzullo (on the turf). Greensburg rallied on a 65-yard touchdown pass from Cody Headrick to Thomas Derstein with 32 seconds remaining to win 42-34 and stay unbeaten in district play and 5-2 overall. Pratt-Skyline defeated St. John 78-76 at Skyline's Homecoming. Pratt-Skyline's Homecoming King, Trent Befort scored 9 touchdowns (6 rushing, 2 receiving, and 1 interception return) he also had 391 rushing yards on 31 carries. Meade Buffalo Albert Davis running with the football against those Elkhart Wildcats. This must have been a great regular old fashioned football game since the score ended up 12-7 for the Buffaloes. Photo by Michelle Ross of Prairie Photo Images Blog.

Greensburg quarterback Cody Headrick takes off on a naked bootleg that netted a 27-yard touchdown in the third quarter of the Rangers' 70-22 pasting of St John. Scoring three times on the same play a week earlier against Jetmore, Headrick's second score at St John, a 49-yard quarterback draw up the middle, ended the game early in the fourth. Trying to give chase is St. John's Zach Minnis (82) and Aaron Spare (22). You gotta love 8-man football these kids sure do! Haviland freshman Montana Ralstin (2)--all 130 pounds of him--grasps the wrist of Bucklin quarterback Zach Kreutzer securely enough to bring him down at the line of scrimmage. Haviland went on to shut out the Aces 47-0 to go 5-1 overall and 2-0 in district play. Great photo by Mark Anderson of the Kiowa County Signal

Central-Burden huddled up before the game. The Raiders are undefeated in district play at 2-0 and looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 1996. Photo by Joel Wheeler.

Matt Bromley of the Independence Bulldogs is one of the reasons Indy is 4-1 on the season for the first time since 1994. Bromley has rushed for 1,104 yards on 138 carries with 14 TD's. Despite being a major weapon in the Bulldogs offensive arsenal, Bromley is most recognized for his incredible work ethic, and unselfish attitude toward his fellow teammates. For example, after shattering the individual school record for rushing yards in a single game (326) against Fort Scott, Bromley was spotted in the 'Dogs huddle congratulating his offensive linemen, who helped pave the way to his amazing performance. Photo by Rob Morgan.

Camron Leupold of Hiawatha is rushing for huge yardage this year (school record through 5 games 1,408 yards) but as with any back gaining big yards he is being lead through those holes by a bunch of blockers and this man-on-man fight in the foreground is looking good. Caney Valley High School's Gable LaForge pulls down a pass from quarterback Matt Barlow while avoiding a Humboldt defender during Caney Valley's 44-13 win over the Cubs on Oct. 2.  The victory propelled the Bullpups to a 5-0 record. Photo by Andy Taylor of the Montgomery County Chronicle.

Greensburg Coach Clint Young opened against rival Jetmore in a look he had kept veiled until Friday night, the inverted wishbone with tailback Nathan Charlton (20) taking the direct snap with fullback Grant Sirois (32) and lineman Billy Stensland (57) flanking him. The Rangers, however, mostly ran Power I and some spread in their 64-26 win over the 'Horns. Charlton gained 405 yards on 48 carries on the night. Dragon's 30-26 win over previously unbeaten Pawnee Heights Friday night. Photo by Mark Anderson of the Kiowa County Signal

Is anybody paying attention to those Hugoton Eagles down in Southwest Kansas? Better keep your eye on the Eagles. Caleb Gifford taking the handoff. Gifford has rushed the ball 77 times for 522 yards through 4 games according to Coach Clint Merritt. Against Southwestern Heights Friday night the Eagles ran the ball 40 times for 490 yards. Just what you would expect from an old Smith Center Redman football player now a Coach. Eagle Football Website. Photo by Lori Demers.

Hiawatha junior Cameron Leupold in game four rushed for over 340 yards and for the season is now over 1,000 yards. Is anybody looking to recruit this 5'10" 185 pounder that runs a 40 in 4.41? Photo by Joey May at Hiawathaworldonline.

Another good QB in our state is sophomore Seth Kern of Paola. Great block by the Panther on the Blazer to free up Seth Kern. Kern rushed 16 times for 140 yards and 2 TD's in this game. Follow the Panthers at Miamicountysports.com with Bill Hauldren who took this picture.

Greensburg on the left and Ashland on the right in a 4th down moment before the play. Notice the artificial turf? Greensburg has the only artificial turf on an 8-man field in Kansas, I think. Ashland wins this game 32-6. Great photo by Mark Anderson of the Kiowa County Signal.

Madison’s Henry Ott makes a ball-jarring tackle on Crest’s Dakota Milner (45). Madison is rolling through the season undefeated and has only allowed 26 points to be scored on their defense. Now that is impressive in 8-man football. My guess is there is a lot of jarring tackles being applied by the Bulldogs. I mean look at this tackle. Wrap up is being performed, drive through with the legs, this a picture perfect tackle! Photo by Gordon Smith.
